CSUN Postdoctoral Association launches workshops to help apply for faculty positions

Next week, the CSUN Postdoctoral Association launches a big new initiative for the fall semester: a series of workshops on the details of applying for tenure-track faculty jobs, open to postdocs at CSUN and other LA-area universities.

Events spaced roughly once a week will feature current CSUN faculty explaining the standard elements of a faculty job application package in the sciences, particularly biology, and providing feedback on participants’ application materials. Later workshops will cover the details of the interview process, from a first-round phone interview to the presentations applicants are expected to give in most science departments.

Workshops scheduled for the fall semester will all be held in Extended Univeristy Commons Room 131 from 10 to noon, with topics and dates as follows:

Topic Date
How to write a research statement Friday, Sept 13
How to write a teaching statement Thursday, Sept 19
How to write a cover letter and diversity statement Friday, Sept 27
How to interview (by phone/Skype or in person) Friday, Oct 4

Registration is for individual workshops, on a first-come basis, via forms provided at the initiative website.
