Colloquium: Moeller on the evolution of “acquired metabolism”

Holly Moeller (UCSB)

This week’s seminar in the Biology Colloquium series will be given by Dr. Holly Moeller from the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology at UC Santa Barbara. Moeller studies a very special class of symbiotic interaction, in which host species acquire useful metabolic functions from their symbionts — up to and including stealing the cellular components that make the metabolic function possible. Her seminar will be titled “Trade, Borrow, or Steal: How acquired metabolism fuels ecological opportunity and evolutionary innovation.”

The Biology Colloquium series is held every Friday during the semester, at 2:00pm in Chaparral Hall room 5125.
