Two graduate students in the CSUN Department of Biology received Honorable Mentions in the National Science Foundation’s 2021 Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Nina Bean, a Master’s student working with Professor Peter Edmunds, and Jamie R. Kerlin, a Master’s student in the Quantitative Marine Ecology Lab, won recognition among thousands of applicants across the United States. The GRFP “recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students” in all fields of research supported by NSF, and for many scientists it is the first opportunity to apply for NSF research funding — applications are allowed only during a limited period at the beginning of a graduate school career.
